Russia’s Tsunami Relief Response Draws Criticism
The sole bright spot in the wake of the devastating tsunami on Dec. 26, 2004 that killed over 150,000 people throughout Southeast Asia was the swift and vigorous response of the international community, which came together to raise nearly $4 billion in disaster relief. At times, it seemed like the rich nations of the world were competing with one another to see who could pledge more to the tsunami’s victims.
