WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Countries hit by the Asian tsunami have moved quickly into the rebuilding phase, helped by an unprecedented outpouring of aid for humanitarian relief, a senior World Bank official said on Tuesday.

'There has been sufficient money available for the U.N., NGOs (nongovernmental groups) and other organizations to implement an effective humanitarian assistance program and this has enabled countries to move quickly to the next phase,' Alastair McKechnie, the World Bank's country director for South Asia, told Reuters in an interview.
McKechnie and other senior bank staff addressed shareholder governments of the global development institution on Tuesday on the bank's response to the tsunami as the lead agency for international rebuilding "
