The first meeting of the joint commission overseeing the distribution of money to Indonesia's tsunami victims has allocated barely one-tenth of the $1 billion of aid pledged by the Australian Government.
After the Prime Minister, John Howard, opened the meeting yesterday ministers from both countries set out a framework for spending the money, devoting much of the time on measures to ensure none was siphoned for corrupt purposes.
Just $50 million will be spent over the short-term in Aceh, where 220,000 people died in the Boxing Day disaster and its aftermath."
