Last Thursday I was lucky enough to listen to Per Stenbeck, International fundraising director for UNICEF, talk about his perpsective on fundraising post-tsunami. And considering this follows the Greenpeace’s own Marcelo Inniara, it’s important to know that Per comes from the Greenpeace fundraising family too. They are real innovators!

AID workers with Capital charity Mercy Corps say a peace deal designed to end 30 years of fighting in the Indonesian province Banda Aceh will speed up the recovery of the tsunami-hit region.

Mercy Corps is one of several organisations which has been working in Indonesia to help the victims of the Boxing Day disaster rebuild their lives."

Ernest & Young, Chartered Accountants, part of an International Accounting Firm has developed a 'Tool Kit' to help those organizations that provide humanitarian aid to Tsunami victims, to establish proper systems of accountability and internal control.

Adlair Goldberg, Ernst & Young, Jakarta, the author of the tool kit named as 'EYe Tool Kit' explained the details of the tool kit at a brief seminar arranged in association with the Consortium for Humanitarian Agencies held at Ceylon Continental Hotel, last week.

Ms Lakmali Nanayakkara, Tax Partner, Ernst & Young Colombo explaining the nature of the NGO Tax Law said the law proposes that NGO's pay tax at 30 percent on a taxable income computed at 6 percent of grants and similar receipts and said that exemptions are considered by the Minister of Finance and the Commissioner General of Inland Revenue.

WASHINGTON - Donations to a broad array of U.S. charities soared in the first quarter of 2005, putting to rest fears that donors would bankroll tsunami relief at the expense of other causes.

'People gave to the tsunami above and beyond what they normally give,' said Jessica Harrington, the vice president for direct response at Schultz & Williams, a Philadelphia-based fundraising consultant. 'They saw it as an additional gift rather than an instead-of gift.'"

Former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton have decided to grant $1 million to a Minnesota-driven project to restore fishing boats the tsunami destroyed in 14 Thai villages in December.

The project, started by the American Refugee Committee in Minneapolis, is the first to receive donations that the former presidents have collected since the White House asked them to help raise tsunami-relief funds in the private sector."
